Review: Playboy Pilot by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

Playboy Pilot is an exceptionally remarkable literary masterpiece and whether it is the romance, characters or angst, I love every single thing about it!

 

Our heroine, Kendall Sparks was an almost twenty five years old woman and she comes from a family of rich oil magnates. In order to claim her trust fund, she must have a son by the time she reached twenty-six. And she might have already constructed a plan with a married gay couple so that she could deliver a baby boy and let them raise the child.

Meanwhile, our playboy hero Captain Carter Clynes, or otherwise known as Trip among the airline crew members which is short for Triple C is a pilot who always travel around the globe (being a pilot, obviously he have to travel a lot yeah?) and apparently he seems to have slept with all the singles women of his coworkers. 

The story starts with Kendall meeting with Carter for the first time at an airport lounge and later begin their wild, hilarious and intense ride to Rio, Dubai, Amsterdam and Boca. Along the ride they can't help but felt in love with each other and due to Kendall's situation they initially planed to have a baby together but something happened that cause them to cease the plan and Kendall decided to leave Carter heartbroken.

Not until eleven months later, Carter finally met again with Kendall on a flight from New York to Boston. They have a very short reconciliation at Boston because Carter still feels very raw since last time it was Kendall who left him. But later on, a simple phone message changed everything and finally they reconciled again at Rio, the first place they spent together during their 'wild ride' previously. And the story ends with a fabulous and satisfying prologue that pretty much guaranteed a HEA to our pair of lovebirds. 

❣ My Opinion ❣

I actually have finished reading Playboy Pilot yesterday but I was on cloud nine feeling euphoric after reading this outstanding book so I delayed writing my review a bit since I'm afraid I couldn't write coherent words. That being said, Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward had successfully made another book that got me hooked 100 percent from the start to the end. I love their work on Stuck Up Suit but Playboy Pilot really takes the cake. The story have an interesting plot line with the way it transported readers to several amazing locations but I believe the strong point is the way the authors deliver the story. They delivered it superbly and the characterizations were incredible. I love the main characters and I ship their relationship so much that I want to say these two things to our hero and heroine.

To our hero: "You're the Carter to my Kendall".

To our heroine: "You're the Kendall to my Carter" 

They are such a perfect pair! *Sigh*

(or in other words, Things that I love about the book)

EVERY.SINGLE.THING. I basically love everything about Playboy Pilot. If have to make a whole list of this I think I will practically ended up writing a book title 101 Things That I Love about Playboy Pilot lol! Anyway, these are my top favorites (In no particular order):

1. Those Beatles songs OH.MY.GOSH! The way the authors incorporated them in the story was soooooo brilliant! And frankly speaking, before I read this book I haven't listen to any of their songs because I'm an idiot. And now, oh well, let's just say The Beatles have got a new fan :) 

2. Perverted Carter! He is so adorably nutty and hilarious. Can't believe that's possible but he is! That scene when he cannot make a move on Kendall and he have to settle with her panties is freaking funny muahahaaa I seriously laughed my ass off.

3. That moment when Kendall wants to lie to Carter that her name is Sydney and fails miserably when Carter found her passport with her name. And what's funnier is Carter teasing her by saying since her first name is Sydney, her last name is Opera-House lol! And I absolutely love that they got married outside Sydney Opera House because of that. So romantic!

4. The scene when Carter was feeling down when he thought Kendall doesn't follow him to Dubai but when he sees her, that massive smile he gave her pretty much mirrored my massive smile at that time. Such a sweet moment!

5. Carter's relationship with Gordon. I like that Carter have so much love in him that he pretended to be Gordon's son when Gordon mistakenly thought he is his son. And what a heartwarming moment it was when in actuality Gordon knew all along Carter is not his son. I almost cried with Carter when he finds out that Gordon had passed away. 

6. All those signs that were signalling that they should be together are splendid! Whether it was intentionally or unintentionally. When the Kardashian's reference came out I really thought the authors read my mind. I was thinking about Kendall Jenner when the first time I learned our heroine's name is Kendall. Besides that, the baby's uniform with Carter's brand was so cute and it was clever how the uniform was included in the story more than once.

But among the signs, I love the sign that Carter intended to make at Rio but hilariously failed. He asked somebody to put a message on a banner trailing at a small plane. It went like this:

Carter huffed, “Fuck! Assholes ruined it. The banner was supposed to say,The Answer is in the Sky: Kendall loves Carter. I knew that guy didn’t understand me!”

Instead it read: The Answer is in Disguise: Ken Doll Loves Farting

And that ladies and gentleman, definitely cracks me up.

None. Nothing. Nada. There is not a single thing that I dislike in Playboy Pilot. I love it wholeheartedly without a single doubt. That is why it deserved 5 star ratings. 

So, everything considered, I must say that all of you romance lovers really should read this book. It is a must and you certainly wouldn't be disappointed. 

I guess that is all on my review about Playboy Pilot and hopefully this will do it justice. The book is really phenomenal and one of the evidence is me having a huge withdrawal right now. This book makes me listening to The Beatles songs and keeps on playing it on repeat. Sighhh. 

I have Marketing class tomorrow and if my professor asked me anything I will answer using lyrics from The Beatles songs. Just kidding! Not.

P.s: What's your favorite Beatle's song? Mine after reading this book is Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds. (Imagining Carter singing it with his own rendition on a plane)

Annie felt the sting and quickly slapped the mosquito nibbling on her calf. They’d been sitting in the grassy field for over an hour waiting for the tow truck to arrive. The subs had long ago been eaten, but they lounged on the trunk carpet sipping what was left of their fountain drinks.
“Damn, it’s hot.” Kip began unbuttoning his shirt and pulling the tail out of his pants. “I’ve got to get out of these clothes.”
Purposely looking the opposite direction, Annie fought the urge to take a glimpse of a shirtless Kip, but instead looked out at the baking weeds in the field. She jerked upright when she heard his belt buckle clink.
“What are you doing?” she shrieked.
“I’m getting out of these clothes. I’m burning up.” Kip tramped to the car, walking around to the driver’s side back door, and leaned inside where Annie couldn’t see. She strained her neck and rose up on her knees, stretching to see what he was doing. A few minutes later he returned to their makeshift picnic spot wearing gym shorts, a T-shirt, and sneakers. Annie dropped back onto the carpet and pulled up a few blades of grass as Kip dropped beside her.
“Disappointed?” he whispered in her ear.
“Huh?”
“You heard me.”
“Why would I be disappointed?”
“You were hoping I was going to strip down.” He wiggled his eyebrows and nudged his shoulder into hers.
“Oh, please.” She went back to weeding the field, furiously yanking blades of grass and letting them flutter in the humid breeze.
“Come on, Coach. I saw the look on your face when I started unbuttoning my shirt.”
“Get over yourself.” She shoved back and then stood up, brushing the dust from her dress. “Should you call them again to see where the truck is?”
“What, don’t you like our little picnic?”
“Porter…seriously, we need to get back.” Annie glared at Kip where he lay on the carpet, resting his head in his hands.
“Relax, it will be here soon. Come lay down with me.” He patted his hand on the carpet and gave her his most salacious grin.
“Not a chance.”
“Come on…what are you afraid of?”
Annie stared at Kip, taking a tendril in her hand and twisting it tightly around her finger. She glanced over her shoulder at the car and then back at him, now lying on his side with his head resting on his hand. He patted the carpet once more and invited her over with a swoosh of his hand.
“Fine,” she said, joining him on the carpet and mimicking his relaxed position.
“Tell me about the mechanic.”
“I already told you. We dated in high school and he taught me all about cars.”
“Nah…there’s got to be more to the story.” Annie watched Kip’s soft lips curl at the corners. The memory of him leaning in to kiss her earlier in the day flashed through her mind. She sighed and flipped flat on her back.
“Not really. My father hated him…thought he wasn’t a good influence. We didn’t date long.”
“This is the first I’ve heard about your dad. You’ve never mentioned your family, actually. What do they do?”
“Oh, um…” Annie closed her eyes against the bright sun. “My dad is an attorney and my mom is a professional party giver.” Not a total lie.
“Sound like interesting people. I’d like to meet them.”

Review: Hart Broken by Annie Arcane

Hart Broken is interestingly unusual and have the right dose of swoon-worthy moments, angst and slapstick humor. 

Mickey Hart met the gorgeous, successful and paraplegic Cale Windermere on a rather unexpected situation but later on she mistakenly thought that he is a criminal and have to fight her attraction towards him. After the misunderstanding has been cleared, they becomes more attracted to each other and feelings deepen. However both have their own demon that they have to fight and they have to built the trust between them to have a shot of their own happiness together.

❣ My Opinion ❣

I think Hart Broken is really a unique story because we usually have the perfect ten hero and although Cale is almost perfect he is also paraplegic and that just makes him human because we human are simply imperfect. And I love how even though Cale is a paraplegic, he is also handsome, sexy, and smart which totally makes me swooning. Furthermore, Mickey is an interesting character as heroine too because she can be funny, outrageous but at the same time she also have this added layer in her character that makes her kind of broken and I'm intrigued and fascinated by her. On a slightly different note, I know I'm usually fixed on reading stories with HEA (Happily Ever After) and although this book doesn't really have a HEA but it have HFN (Happy For Now) so I'm pretty okay with how the story ended in this book.

(or in other words, Things that I love about the book)

1) I especially love how independent and strong-willed Cale is because I think it is admirable that he do all the stuffs himself that any other normal paraplegic will have others to assist them. 

2) The part where Mickey mistakenly thought Cale is a serial killer is hilarious! It is really funny when Mickey had the scares of her life when she thought Cale is a dangerous criminal although in actuality he is definitely not. 

3) Shirtless Cale! Oh my gosh. Absolutely, totally and definitely dreamy. *Sigh*

(or in other words, Things that I can live without from the book)

1) The boyfriend and girlfriend declaration. Or the lack thereof. I mean, I understand that in reality we don't usually have to declared ourselves as boyfriend and girlfriend in relationship but in Cale and Mickey case, it would be nice to know at least there is a sort of discussion about that or anything so that I could comprehend how they moved from being not in a relationship to bf/gf's phase.

2) The part where Mickey called Cale 'cripple'. I totally understand that she didn't mean it and it was like the words we normally say when we are in anger or frustration but we actually didn't mean it. Even if I know that, when Mickey said it, I couldn't help but gasp in disbelief. And I get that she apologize to Cale but it didn't feel enough because maybe I wish she apologize harder and explained thoroughly why she said that.

All in all, I think Hart Broken is a really good story and if you're a fan of unique, sexy and angsty romance then this one is for you.

This Love is heartbreaking, angsty, and intensely hot. It is a story about forgiving and being forgiven to fully fall in love.

I think the story have a unique plot in the way it brings the villain-to-hero arc to Jack's character although I didn't really think he is a villain at first. I mean I know he is generally a good person and him being a villain was an accident but it happened and I've found myself rooting for him to forgive himself even after Emmy has forgive him.

I am also drawn to Emmy and Jack's love story as I love how they have this same wavelength that only they know how each other is badly grieving and how desperately they search for something to move beyond that phase. It is so beautiful how they found each other in the midst of all that.

(or in other words, Things that I love about the book)

1. I love how despite everything that happened to Emmy in the past with Jack, she still could find it in her to forgive him and helps him to finally let the past go.  It think it is an interesting healing process and it is really believable.

2. That scene at the bed and breakfast is brilliantly written. I like how Jake and Emmy talked about what happened in the past and then really have to struggle their affection towards each other. I love how their their romance were not being forced at that moment and it is also when I can see the glimpse that they could be great together.

3. That first kiss at Emmy's cottage after Adam has left and Jake suddenly came back to her. I was glad that we readers have to wait for awhile for their first kiss but the anticipation is one of the many things that I've enjoyed.

Adam! I know every story perhaps need an antagonist but he really infuriates me. I don't know really know if he really is attracted to Emmy or he feels like he have to honor his late brother either way he makes me cringe every single time when he shows his interest to be with her. And I understand his anger towards Jake but it feels too much but then, I'm glad towards the end he (seems to) finally came to his senses. 

Overall I think This Love have a good premise and the book managed to deliver it well. This book is totally suitable to the romance lover who love angsty love story and wants to skewed away from the sweet and fluffy romance.
