WHEN A COWBOY MEETS AN HEIRESS

Cash Hardeman thinks he'll have all the time in the world to find the right woman . . . until he discovers he might lose the family ranch if he's not married by his thirtieth birthday. So when Boston beauty Annelise blows into town on her Harley, Cash can't help wondering if she's the sexy, leather-clad answer to all his problems.

Giving her bodyguards and the paparazzi the slip, heiress Annelise Montjoy comes to Maverick Junction on a mission to help her ailing grandfather. But keeping her identity hidden in the small Texas town is harder than she expected-especially around a tempting cowboy like Cash. He's the kind of man who makes her want to spill all her secrets. Soon Annelise starts to wonder if she's finally found the man who can love her for herself rather than her money. But will the secrets they both keep ruin their plans to ride off into the sunset together?
“Annie, I’m the guy. The guy drives.”

“Not always.”

“In Texas he does.”

She rolled her eyes. “That is so male!”

“There you go. I’m a male.”

“It’s about control. You’re used to being in control.”

Hands on his hips, he thought about that. “Yeah, guess I am.”

“Well, so am I. And it’s my bike.” She dangled the keys in front of him. “My keys mean I drive.”

“But you don’t know where we’re going,” he argued.

“So you’ll be my co-pilot. Direct me. How else am I going to learn my way around?”

He scowled, not at all comfortable with the way this was going down. “Tell you what. Why don’t we take the Caddy? Top’s down, and it’s an amazing night. It’ll be nice.”

She laughed, the sound curling itself in his belly. “Nice try, but uh-uh. No way. You talked me into a night bike ride, Cash, and that’s what I intend to have.”

“You might want to think about this.”

“Oh, I have.” A quick grin lit her face. Then, mimicking his stance, she rested her hands on those curvy hips and tilted her head. “You’re not afraid to ride with me, are you?”

His eyes narrowed. “Afraid? Me? Not in this lifetime.”

“Good.”

After he stepped onto the stair landing, she closed and locked the door behind her. Then she headed down the stairs and hopped on her Harley. In the driver’s seat. He felt unbelievably silly as he slowly swung his leg and slid behind her. He sure as hell hoped nobody saw him sitting in the sissy seat. “Annie—”

“Hold on, big boy.” The bike rumbled to life. She spurted out of the drive so fast he barely had time to wrap his arms around her slender waist. He held himself stiffly as she navigated her way through the side streets, fuming that she didn’t trust him to drive her motorcycle. But then, as they headed out of town along the dark road, the night air wrapped around him, and he began to relax. Not half-bad. Rather than hands on the controls, his arms were free to slide around Annie. His palms rested on her taut stomach, imagined the soft, warm skin beneath that butter-colored tank. He leaned into her, breathed in her purely feminine scent. Nuzzled her neck just below her helmet.

The bike wobbled and he pulled back, laughing. Throwing caution to the wind, they wound through narrow back roads as he directed her across his grandfather’s land to his little place by the lake. His sanctuary. He didn’t often take anyone there.

As it came into view, she slowed. “Oh, Cash. This is incredible.”

It was, he thought. The moon hung low, glimmered in the lake. The stately pines that rimmed the far side reflected in the smooth-as-glass dark water. And his house, with its cedar siding and high-pitched cedar-shingled roof, looked like every man’s dream. He’d worried when his mother had insisted on planting those daisies flanking the porch and walk. But their white heads glistened in the moonlight and actually added to the place’s charm.

He cleared his throat. “I like it.”

She turned off her bike, and the two of them sat listening to the bullfrogs, the cicadas, the hoot of an owl off in the distance. His fingers itched to run along her moon-gilded arms and shoulders, and he found himself wishing he hadn’t suggested she change out of those little white shorts before hopping on the bike. His hands itched to tangle themselves in the mass of curls that tumbled free when she removed her helmet. Instead, he said, “Come on. Let me show you around.”

They left the helmets on the bike and walked across the yard to stand by the lake. Before they reached the water’s edge, Staubach came barreling toward them, whimpering and shaking with delight.

“I thought you were locked in the house, pal.” Cash snagged his collar, and the dog dropped to the ground.

Annie crouched beside him, and the dog wriggled loose from Cash and rolled onto his back. With a laugh, she gave in. “You like this, don’t you, you silly thing.”

“Nothing silly ’bout having a woman’s hands on you.”

Their eyes met in the pale light, and he had to remind himself to go slow. To resist the urge to join her on the grass. To fight the almost overwhelming need to put his own hands all over her.

“Up for another ride?” he asked impulsively, spotting the canoe he’d left tethered to his dock.

“Now?”

“Sure, why not?”

She grinned. “Why not?”

“You’re staying here, Staubach.”

The dog, happy to have his person home, sat on his haunches, tail wagging. Cash helped her in, then settled himself on the center bench. This time he was driving, by God. His paddle dipped almost silently into the water as they glided toward the middle of the lake. Overhead, stars winked, and the moon scattered soft light. Not a single cloud drifted by to mar the sky’s obsidian perfection.

Totally relaxed, she leaned back, dipping her hand in the cool water, letting her fingers trail as they slipped smoothly along.

“Look,” she whispered. Fireflies winked and darted across the water. Cash angled the paddle back into the canoe and leaned forward. His arm slid around Annie and drew her close. She yipped when the boat rocked.

“Shhh. It’s okay. You’re safe.”

Still, she held on to the sides. He pried her fingers loose and put her hands on his arms.

“Here. Hold on to me.”

Before she could protest, he lowered his mouth to hers. Annie’s grip tightened on his biceps. With a sigh, she leaned closer still, seeming unconcerned when the canoe listed, then righted itself. Her mouth opened, and she gave him everything. He changed the angle and deepened the kiss. Heart hammering in his chest, Cash finally broke the mind-staggering connection. “Annie—”

She shook her head, laid a finger over his lips. “Don’t say anything, Cash. Kiss me again.”

My Rating: (4 Country Stars)
Somebody Like You is a romantic love story that will makes you fall in love with all things country and that includes hot cowboy, cowboy boots and of course country songs! It is your ultimate City meets Country kind of story.

First of all, I am fascinated by the city girl meets cowboy trope. I love how the author incorporated that brilliantly in the story with the city girl in question being a super rich heiress and never have to lift a hand to do house chores but now have to help at a ranch. I am curious on how the hero and heroine will be attracted towards each other and how they will manage to breach the huge gap between their two different lives in order to have their own happy ending.

Cash Hardeman or Cash is our hot and charming cowboy hero who is in a predicament where he have to get married by the age thirty or he would have to share his grandfather's ranch with his late grandfather's evil young widow. What I love about him is that he is really friendly towards the people at his neighborhood and I love his country way of speaking. He is all darlin' and honey even towards a mother-like figure and I when imagined him saying that with sexy southern accent, I'm pretty swooning like a madwoman. Despite all his good personality, he is quite a commitment phobic and have issue specifically towards marriage so I enjoyed his struggle to fight his explosive feelings towards Annie.

Our lovely heroine is Annelise Montjoy or Annie is the extremely wealthy heiress who travel to Maverick Junction with the sole mission to find a long lost relative who might have the chance to help cure her grandfather's disease. But she is also using that opportunity to ditch her bodyguards and enjoying her freedom while she is on that quest. She is very pretty like a cover-model pretty but she got some spunk in her personality. I love that even if she is extremely rich, she have a heart of gold where she genuinely care about the less fortunate people and even create a foundation for that. I also love how she truly loves her grandfather who have leukemia and willing go to the end of the world even with the slightest hope that could help him. But what I love the most is how she is with Cash and I enjoyed how her feelings gradually changed from being as friendly as a mama bear towards him to finally being in love with him.

I had fun reading this book mostly because I love Cash and Annie as well as all the supporting characters like Dottie and all the gang in Maverick Junction. Their closeness in that community feels real and genuine and it makes me wants to be a part of them. I am totally recommending Somebody Like You to romance readers who is a fan of all things country and even if you don't, a certain hot cowboy will definitely swept you of your feet with this wonderful love story.

For Evie Rivers, eight weeks in the Hamptons is the perfect opportunity to get her dreams of being a romance writer off the ground. She's planning to keep to herself and finish her first novel. But then she meets Adam Walker, and everything changes.
He was so at ease, walking into my house wrapped in a towel, that I had to remind myself we had only just met. Scurrying in, I quickly busied myself scrunching up newspaper and stacking the fireplace with kindling and logs while Adam gazed around the room. Max sniffed at everything that was within reach before finding the rug by the hearth to be the most comfortable place to flop down.

“Here, allow me.” Adam squatted beside me, the movement making his towel flap open dangerously high. I quickly averted my eyes, then took a sneaky look back down. The towel was only just covering the good bits, as the muscles in his legs flexed to support his weight and hold him stable.

I racked my brain, trying to think of something to say, but it had been a very long time since I had been this close to an attractive man, and never this close to a nearly naked one, other than my ex-husband Charles. Being with Charles had never given me these butterflies; he was comfortable to be around, like a friend you felt safe with. This guy made me want to run away and launch myself at him all at the same time.

Adam looked down at his lack of clothing. “We’d better head home. I need to get dressed.” He moved for the door. “Come on, buddy, let’s go.”

Max’s tail thumped once. His eyes opened for a moment, then closed again.

“Come on, Maxie.” Adam patted his thigh. “Max. Come.”

I stifled my snigger as Max settled in, relishing the comfort of the rug and open fire after his swim in the freezing water.

“He can stay here. It’s no trouble,” I offered. “I can bring him over later or…”

“I’ll come back in a little while after I get some clothes on.” His eyes swept over me. “I’ll see you soon, Buttercup.”

The door closed and Adam’s broad back descended the stairs to the beach and disappeared around the corner.

Did he just call me Buttercup?

My Rating: (4 Buttercup Stars)
Broken is a lovely and heartwarming read that will makes you feel giddy, swoony and maybe on the verge of tearing up sometimes. This is a love story between a British guy who is a painter-slash-English teacher with a romance writer that comes from Southern America.

Firstly I must say that I am truly surprised and delighted upon realizing that Adam Walker is portrayed as the hot British hero because I am such a sucker at those dreamy accent. *Sigh* And by the way, this guy love to skinny-dipping! *Double sigh*

Besides having those divine and heavenly attributes, I am also loving the fact that Adam is so understanding and supporting to Evie especially when Evie is working on her novel. That is totally in contrast to Evie's ex-husband and I dig that.

I am also loving Evie Rivers as the heroine because I find myself immersed in her journey to finish a romance novel right from the start when she was struggling towards the end when she is writing the acknowledgements. I like the meta that was happening in the book specifically the time where I am reading this incredible romance novel and the character inside it is also reading a romance novel. That is wickedly genius and I love it a lot.

I think Broken gives off the vibe where strangers meet on a vacation and the falls in love during that vacation time. Except it is not really a vacation for both characters as Evie is there to finish her writing after her marriage fails and Adam is there because he wants to run away from having to deal with his illness. I love the part where Evie and Adam gradually falls in love with each other, the anxiety of their upcoming separation, the super long but needed separation and the reunion along with the miracle that comes.

(or in other words, Things that I love about the book)

1. The part where Evie secretly watched Adam skinny-dipping and hilariously got caught by him. That is really funny and I was a bit embarrassed for her but only for a bit because I love that scene.
2. I love that Adam called Evie Buttercup! I love endearments so much and I am swooning like a schoolgirl every time he calls her that. And I like the part where he takes her buttercup-yellow sweater during the separation.
3. The scene where Adam is teasing Evie in one of their early encounters about her using funny words for the man and lady parts in her old works. LOL. The type of words she used really cracked me up!
(or in other words, Things that I can live without from the book)
1. Annabel! She is not really hateful when compared to other hateful characters in the literary world but I still don't like her. I don't like her during the first time Evie met her and I really don't like her when she doesn't let Evie visit Adam at the hospital. But yeah I can understand the significance of her character but I still don't like her.
2. Adam's twin.Okay. it is not that I dislike Will, in fact I like his character but I was kind of thrown off guard when Will suddenly appeared in the story. I wish I was somehow introduced to his character before he made the appearance.

All in all, I think that Broken is really a fabulous love story that I really enjoyed reading and I would recommend it to romance lovers who is seeking for a good time to be engrossed in lovely romance fiction.

Hopefully you guys will have a good time reading Broken as much as I do.

Yours truly,
Abby
